Wednesday Hodgepodge With A Cherry On Top

1. When were you last 'on a mountaintop'?  You may answer in the literal or figurative sense.

Last week actually. A couple of friends from out of state were visiting and I had no idea they were here. I got an invite for supper one evening and it was so fun to see them! There were only five of us and we chatted and giggled and laughed the whole evening. It was so good to renew our friendships again. Friends, whether far or near, are a fabulous blessing in our lives! :D

2.  Do you establish and maintain a strict budget in your household?  What is one piece of financial advice you would offer someone just starting out on their own?

Unfortunately not as strict as I wish I were. It's something I'm still working on actually. My advice? Try to save as often as you can. Even if only a few dollars every week or every month, it will soon add up.

3.  Cherries-yay or nay?  Cherry pie, cherry cola, black forest cake, or a scoop of Ben and Jerry's Cherries Garcia...pick one.

Fresh cherries are certainly a yay! It helps to have a cherry pitter that will take the seed out and leave the rest of the cherry intact for eating. :) Not a big fan of cherry pie though or ice cream, so I'll choose the black forest cake.

4.  Should you ever discuss religion or politics with people you don't know?

I suppose you can, but very carefully. If you have a strong conviction on something, you should feel free to say it, yet in a way that is respectful of them and their convictions or opinions and won't offend or push the other person away (at least not on purpose).

5.  When you take a road trip do you prefer to be the driver or the passenger?  Where were you headed on your last road trip?

The passenger unless we're driving on a really crooked or curvy road (in which case I may get a little car sick so prefer to drive or at least sit up front to watch where we're going. For some reason that helps.) My last road trip was over to the ocean for the weekend last summer.

6. If we peeked inside your closet, what color would we say is most prevalent?

Orange. But I have lots of bright colors in general: yellow, orange, blue. I'm a cheerful color kind of person. :)

7. Who's your favorite senior citizen and why are they special?

Well, I would say my grandmother, but she's passed on now and I assume you'd prefer the answer be someone still living. So, I'll go with a dear friend. (I don't know if she is technically a "senior citizen" but she is old enough to be my mother. In fact she shares her birthday with my mom.) She is special to me because she is always cheerful and has the most giving spirit of anyone I know. I can't count the times her and her husband have helped me out and given me advice and just been there with a listening ear. And I know she does the same for countless others. Her home is always open for baby-sitting or food-giving or prayer time for whoever is in need at the moment. I can also guarantee that she'd deny that she does anything spectacular, but as a recipient of her love and care, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is a very remarkable woman who allows Jesus to shine through her in whatever she does. She's absolutely one of my favorite people ever! And I feel very blessed to count her as a dear friend of mine. :)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Some friends and I got together last night and watched the finale of season 3 of Downton Abbey. I had read some spoilers, so I knew what was coming. But this picture below fully explains my feelings after watching it! Sniff sniff. ;)

We had a fun little party though. A couple of the girls had made some scones and we had little cucumber sandwiches and chicken sandwiches. And of course we had tea in pretty little tea cups. :D After watching the episode, we then spent a considerable amount of time rehashing our feelings. (You know how women are.) So now, I'm still a little sad but, as they are fictional, I'm not too horribly broken up about it. It is a soap opera after all, and drama goes along with those sorts of things. All in all it was a fun season at Downton as always and our party was a success! So we came out great in the end. :D

Did you watch it? What did you think?

  1. I couldn't find that show when I searched for it. I heard lots of good things about it though! We have more of a spending plan than a budget. We save up for big items (cars, home improvements, etc.) and then pay off our credit cards each month. Avoid debt and save as much as we can. Like cherries--even my black cherry cough drops! Never went on a road trip but if I did, I'd definitely rather be a passenger.

    1. It's a great show! If you get a chance, I recommend it. :) Road trips are so fun! But only if you enjoy going places. Believe me, home is really nice also. ;D

  2. I'm just finishing season 1 & my mom said, "Dont watch any of it because you're going to get to this season & have your heart broke"... so now, I'm just anxious to get there. & wondering if I can stay away from spoilers.

    1. The ending to this season was very sad, but I'm still looking forward to the next one. Good luck staying away from spoilers! That might be pretty difficult to achieve. It is such a fun show though. So addicting! :D

  3. First, thanks for stopping by my blog. It's always such fun to meet a fellow blogger. And, in reading "About You" I see that you are from Virginia. I am too, I was born in Newport News. Yea! for Virginia.

I nearly died over Downton Abbey Sunday night. My goodness, why did it have to end that way. And, to think that we have to wait until next Jan. for the next season. Ugh!

    Happy week!

    1. Double yea for Virginia! Glad to meet a fellow southerner. :)

YES! I totally agree it was an awful way to end the season! Last season at least had a wonderful moment right at the very end so the one year wait was bearable. This wait will be terrible. :(

Thanks for stopping by here! I too love to meet new blogger friends.

  4. My mom loves Downton Abby! You have to wait til next January?? my goodness thats just cruel! I don't care for drama and too much talking. The only drama i ever liked were crime shows like Law & Order.
Anyway 1/2 dome is in Yosemite but 1/4 dome is on the way there and consists of much less climbing. We've been on a lot of hikes through Yosemite Valley but that was my proudest one.

    1. Right now, it definitely feels cruel! :P And Law & Order is pretty interesting. I've watched an episode here and there, but don't keep up with it.

Good to know about 1/4 dome. I'll have to check it out sometime. I tried 1/2 dome once years ago, and couldn't make it all the way. Perhaps I could do this smaller one. Thanks Nikki! :)

  5. I've seen so much on Downton Abby this week, makes me curious to want to watch it (never seen it!).

You're right on the saving. My husband has a see through coin bank on our dresser and it has filled up quickly just from his change.

    1. Downton Abbey is a lot of fun, but be warned that its terribly addicting. Let me know if you try it and what you think. :)

That's a great way to save! Certainly putting your change in a spot to save it each day would add up pretty quickly. I've done that once in a while, I should make more of a habit of it.

  6. We have the end of Downton Abbey on the DVR, but if you're on Social Media it's impossible not to know what happens. Sigh.

I actually have quite a bit of orange in my wardrobe too. I wear a lot of blue and I like the two together. Enjoy your day!

    1. Yay for orange! :D Yes, it's terribly hard to keep from being spoiled. It actually doesn't bother me, but I know a lot of people don't like it. If you don't want it to happen, about the only way is no internet at all! (Which, you know, is about impossible in itself. ;P)

  7. I think I own two pieces of orange clothing. While I like things with color I am not one to wear anything that draws too much attention to myself. I wear mostly black slacks with soft colored sweaters or blouses.
Your friend sounds like a true gem.

    1. My eyes always seem to be drawn to bright fabrics. They just cheer me up. But I like black too! That may sound crazy, but it's true. :)

She is wonderful!!! So thankful for her.

  8. I like to read that you're cheerful [that's the best attitude if you want my opinion]...and your color choices certainly sound wonderful and bright. My sister is inflicted with the same problem when it comes to driving/traveling. She gets queasy just thinking about having to be in the back seat/she's okay in the front seat or driving.

    1. Yeah, just being able to watch where we're going from the front really seems to help me a lot. It's kind of funny the way it works, but I'll take it! :)
