Fun Friday

Okay, so I admit it. I went in Barnes & Noble last night and came out with these two lovely and gorgeous books. Seriously! Aren't those covers awesome?! You know you think so too. ;P

I knew I wanted Once Upon a Prince and that I'd get it someday soon, I just wasn't sure when. I don't know much about Gone South other than Kellie loved it. I even entered a giveaway for one of the books, but I just couldn't pass them up! It simply was not humanly possible I tell you. I actually hadn't been in a B&N in ages. When I stepped inside, it felt just like home. Ever happen to you? Bookstores just have this certain feel about them, don't they? :)

Regardless, when I saw each book sitting on its respective shelf, I couldn't stop my hand from reaching out and grabbing them up. A small trek to the cash register (and a lighter purse on my shoulder) later, they were mine. MINE! My precious! Okay, so I'm not that obsessed with them. Really! But I'm pretty positive I can safely say that I'll be doing some reading this weekend. Hooray for reading! What I'm not looking so forward to is the fact that my Friday at work is going to be so slow. When I really want to be home, I know my work day is probably guaranteed to make me (extra) crazy. Isn't that how it always works? *big sigh*

Anyway! Next pointless topic. If you're on Pinterest, you may have seen this pin floating around.

A friend and I were trying it out the other day and this is what I figured out about myself:
  • Peter, with all his charming personality and engaging wit, is not the best housekeeper. So evidently I'm a great conversationalist (who knew?) but I'm terrible at housekeeping (most definitely). And I have no idea about the Peter part.
  • The meal they call dinner here is not the simple lunch of sushi or ham on wheat I'm partial to back home. Sushi is a simple lunch (??? I've never actually tried it) and I must like to eat (TRUTH).
  • There are certain irremovable barriers between myself and them, and I must accept them. Now I go from being engaging to having barriers?
What say you? Based on the admittedly little you may know about me, do you think these describe my life? What about you? What would your books say about you? If you try it, let me know what you came up with! I'm very interested to see if someone else had better luck than I did. :D

Happy Friday y'all!

  1. Just have to say that I went to Barnes & Noble today!!! I made sure to look up the address of one I had been to before that would be "on the way" for my road trip. ;) Figured it would be a good stop, LOL!

And I'm totally with you - it feels like it's been ages since I've been in a book store like that!! (I miss Borders... It was the only bigger book store we had in our area.) It's kind of a different experience after being a book blogger. Like, "I already know all about these books, and ones that haven't come out yet!" Hehe.

This time I made a beeline for the YA books, and I picked up paperbacks of Matched and Shadow and Bone. Curious to read them! And they do look very cool. ;) Love the covers of the ones you picked, too!

Happy reading! And now I really must hit the hay, LOL! Here I've been driving all day... What am I still doing up?? *sigh*

    1. Great minds think alike, Amber! Bookstores are always a good stop. :D

I miss Borders too! I liked it better than B&N and was so sad when it closed. I knew exactly where my "spot" was and there was always a little stool or something to sit on right by the shelves. Ah the memories.

I know exactly what you mean about being a book blogger. I do the same thing when I enter a bookstore. I see all the ones that I've already heard about, so basically I'm just looking for the ones I know I'll want to buy. Not that I'm complaining, I just find it interesting that my mindset has changed so much.

That night I bypassed the YA section because I knew if I stopped, I'd be in the store a whole lot longer than I wanted. As it was, it was terribly hard to pull myself away. ;) I'll be curious what you think of Shadow and Bone. Sounds intriguing.

I can't say anything about you staying up late, cause I overslept this morning and missed church. :/ I've gotta get to bed early tonight! (We'll see if I convince myself when 10 o'clock comes. ;)

  2. Book stores are amazing! I always go in intending to get one book, but come out with four :P But, they are awesome like that. :)

    1. Yes they are, Hannah! They most definitely are. And I surely had no intentions of buying two books when I went in. :D

  3. Dude! I was at B&N on Wednesday, a completely out-of-the-blue stopoff that ended up lasting over an hour. ::whistles and looks innocent:: I came out with a seek-and-find book for my kids for an upcoming road trip, a book for a secret blog project I'm planning, a board book for a friend who's having a baby in the fall, and the exact translation of The Count of Monte Cristo that I've been looking for -- and the latter was only $15! Woo!

    1. Hamlette, we seem to run on the same wavelength a lot, don't we? :D I was actually really proud of myself for only being in the store for 30 minutes. Granted it was late evening and I hadn't eaten supper yet. Hunger is a good deterrent to staying too long in a book store! ;P

Yeah for great deals! I love it when that happens. And secret blog project? Ooooo, I'm certainly intrigued now.

  5. YES! I am so excited about your purchases, Kara. And hey, if one has to have a lighter purse, this is a great cause, right!? ;)

Excited that I will be getting Gone South soon! It sounds really good plus oh-my that cover. (Obviously I've rambled on about 'Prince' enough already but... really, that cover is GORGEOUS!)

    1. Most definitely a great cause, Rissi! ;D

Both covers are awesome!! But Gone South is just such a great mix of simple with lots of details. Plus a pretty dress! I can't wait to start it myself. :)

  6. The closest book to me is HEALTHIER AT HOME, pg 45, first sentence: Choose whole-grain products and fruits and vegetables daily. (I do this!)

    1. Thanks for playing along, Karen. I think you had a little better luck with it than I! Not that I really believe that it works that way, but it is fun to see what I find in each book. ;)

  7. Eeeh!! How's Gone South treating you?? I can't wait to read Once Upon a Prince!

    1. Kellie, so far so good! Meg Mosely definitely has a way with words, doesn't she? :)

And Prince is sooo much fun! The adorable hero is just what a hero ought to be. A steady, Bible-reading, praying man who treats the lady he loves so wonderfully nice and lovely and.....and.....*sigh*. Definitely a keeper! :D
