Movie Quote Monday

Kathleen Kelly: Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life - well, valuable, but small - and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around? I don't really want an answer. I just want to send this cosmic question out into the void. So good night, dear void.

This is one of my favorite quotes from any movie! (Incidentally, this is one of my favorite movies too. Bet you didn't guess, huh?) I can't quote this whole paragraph from memory, but I always remember the last line. In fact, I even wrote a post on my thoughts about this quote back when I first started blogging last Fall. (Yes, I'm still a newbie at this whole blogging thing. :) So I do realize that I'm repeating myself. But being brave is something I'm still working on.

Besides, it's such a lovely thought, don't you think? Sending our questions out and realizing it's okay that we don't have all the answers right now. Or maybe we don't actually want an answer anyway, we just needed to get our thought out of our head and into words so it makes more sense to us. I know I need to do that pretty often. If I leave it in my head, I'll just analyze it to death and only go around in circles. My brain does silly things like that. :)

This is a part of a link up at In Sunshine and Shadows. Click on the link above and check out her lovely blog, see other movie quotes, and read a few reviews! Even add your own quote, if you like. :)

  1. My husband is good at remembering quotes from movies--me, not so much.

  2. This is one of my favorite movies too! I always know I'm ready for spring when I pull out the soundtrack in late winter.

    1. Hamlette, I love that soundtrack! It is springtime kind of music, isn't it? Whenever I hear any of the songs elsewhere, they always make me think of this movie. :)

  3. Haven't watched this film is ages. Love it but am not Tom Hanks biggest fan so... that is always a bit off-putting. One of these days I'll watch it again. :)

    1. Certainly if you're don't really enjoy Mr. Hanks, then this movie would be kind of a drag for you. Makes sense. Although now I'm curious Rissi, is there something in particular that you don't like, or is it more general? You don't have to answer that, but oh the mystery! ;)

I rather like Meg and Tom's chemistry and this movie never fails to make me smile. I can't count how many times I've watched it. Although it's actually been a while since the last time, so I think I'm due another viewing soon. :D

    2. Kara, do you like Tom & Meg's other two movies together, Sleepless in Seattle and Joe vs. the Volcano? I love Sleepless, but the lesser-known Volcano is quirky and fun and worth seeing at least once. Meg Ryan plays 3 or 4 characters, which is endlessly amusing.

    3. Hamlette, yes I've seen both of them. I fell in love with Sleepless in Seattle and that led me to discover Joe vs. the Volcano.

I do have to confess that the first time I watched it, I was like "what on earth did I just watch?" But then I watched it again and with a third and forth and more viewings later, I have come to enjoy its quirkiness! Because it's certainly quirky. But oh so much fun! :P

The very beginning always gets me because of the song playing. My dad always sang that song when I was growing up. He knew the whole thing by heart.

    4. "I have no response to that." My friends and I used to say that allllllll the time :-)

    5. Ha! :D Such a quotable movie.

And I've wondered whether I might have a brain cloud some days. Would be a great explanation! You know, except for the whole going to die part. ;P

  7. A favorite movie!!! I have dreamt of owning a little bookshop like the shop around the corner... And that quote is soooo inspiring!!! :)

Have you ever seen the old Shop Around the Corner with Jimmy Stewart and Ann Sullivan? Or In Good Ole Summertime with Van Johnson and Judy Garland? Both are older versions of this movie... So fun! :)

    Happy Wednesday!!!
