And yes, here's to hoping we get our perfect adaptation some day!!! *dreaming and hoping* :)

Ha! I'm glad you noticed! I wondered if anyone would... ;D Yes. I find Gwyneth annoying as well! I'm so glad someone else agrees with me on that! I also agree that I love her in other movies. Have you ever seen Possession? I love her in that one a lot!

YAY for the 2009 Emma! Several people have mentioned that this version follows the book really closely, which just makes me happy. Perhaps that's another reason I couldn't love the others as much? Hmmm. :) Yes, Mark does tend to play a lot of villain roles, doesn't he? Emma was the first thing I saw him in, but he just doesn't have the swoony part down yet. Maybe there's some other movie he's been in that would change my mind? He's not terrible, but I just didn't enjoy his Knightley at all.

Hoping to get the next post finished up soon! :)Karahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590701834142754842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-71493847382775287852015-12-26T13:39:54.110-05:002015-12-26T13:39:54.110-05:00Thanks, Birdie! I'm so glad you enjoyed it as well! I have not seen that version of S&S actually. But sounds like I shouldn't make the effort to find a copy. It does make sense that Bollywood versions could be hit and miss. Have they remade any others, do you know?Karahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590701834142754842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-58496821647552869522015-12-19T21:45:13.905-05:002015-12-19T21:45:13.905-05:00Persuasion: Can I just say I agree with you on all...Persuasion: Can I just say I agree with you on all points!!?? I haven't seen the 1971 version, but it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything. If we could just combine the best parts of the 95 & 07, it might be close to perfect: RPJ, Amanda Root, the Crofts from 95, the music from 07. Maybe someday we'll get our perfect adaptation!

Emma: "He's not my Mr. Knightley, but I can appreciate his good qualities nonetheless" I see what you did there!!! I have to say, the Gwyneth Emma is not my favorite, either. I find her annoying in that role (though I love her in other films, oddly enough).

The 2009 is by far my favorite! I haven't seen the 1996 w/Kate & Mark. I do have a hard time imagining him as Knightley because he usually plays a darker role. If I remember correctly, the 2009 more closely follows the book.

I'm looking forward to your next Austen Adaptation posts!Courtney Clark (The Green Mockingbird Blog)https://www.blogger.com/profile/01057618073305232146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-48437873716367353442015-12-18T07:50:42.857-05:002015-12-18T07:50:42.857-05:00Great post, Kara! It's such a fun update on the story, isn't it? :)

I love Aisha! And it definitely has similarities to Bride and Prejudice (which I love as well), but there's several differences too. For one, they don't speak in English at all, so hopefully it wouldn't bother you to use subtitles. And there are things that are mentioned that go over my head because I don't understand the context or the Indian culture very well. None of that bothered me though, so if you enjoyed B&P, I bet you'd like this one too. It's definitely a favorite of mine!

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! It's nice to meet another Austen fan. :)Karahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590701834142754842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-12525181694321884252015-12-17T18:41:20.960-05:002015-12-17T18:41:20.960-05:00Thank, Lianne! :)
Yes, so true. The 2007 Persuasi...Thank, Lianne! :)

Yes, so true. The 2007 Persuasion is beautifully shot and that soundtrack? Definitely one I listen to often. And Rupert of course. He's just.....yeah. That. ;) Yes!! That moment from the 1995 version is completely wonderful. They are so oblivious of all the noise and commotion around them and quietly walk off together. A very sweet moment for sure!

So the 2009 version actually is closer to the book? There were such divided opinions on who liked it or didn't like it when it first came out that I wasn't sure how closely it tied in, or if they may have used a bit of creative license. But it's certainly a very pretty version. And my very clear favorite! :D

Yes! I've since seen Mark Strong in other things and enjoyed him immensely, so it always disappoints me when I think back to his Mr. Knightley and how very much I didn't like him. If he'd been able to lighten him up a bit, maybe that would've helped. Who knows?

We Emma Approved fans must unite! The cuteness was so fun, wasn't it? :)

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! Jane Austen just makes me happy and I'm glad others like to chat about her stories as much as I. I'm assuming you're talking about the 2007 version, which I happen to love. Definitely planning to talk about it in a future post. You may some day and then again you may not. I think I love it so well because I love Anne dearly. I connect with her and relate to her a great deal. We're a lot alike, so that helps. :) Some people love the 2007 version, some love the 1995 version, I just happen to be one who loves both for different reasons! (Also isn't Rupert VERY nice to watch onscreen?! Have you seen him in The 39 Steps? I rather liked him there as well. :)

Oh yay! A fellow fan of the 2009 Emma! Isn't Jonny Lee Miller AMAZING?! I love his Mr. Knightley to the moon and back!

I'm glad to know someone else to doesn't really love the Gwyneth Paltrow version either! There aren't very many of us, I'm afraid. So we must stick together!

Snarky Knightley is AWESOME. Yay for Emma Approved! Clearly you and I have fabulous taste in common. :DKarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590701834142754842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-1525955048384779562015-12-16T20:12:33.040-05:002015-12-16T20:12:33.040-05:00Loved this post! And I hadn't heard of Aisha but I should probably try it - especially if it's anything like 'Bride and Prejudice' :)Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13686117720448179589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-4392874253017620522015-12-09T22:34:39.977-05:002015-12-09T22:34:39.977-05:00Great post Kara! I love both the 1995 and 2007 adaptations of Persuasion; the 2007 adaptation is aesthetically gorgeous (and I heart the soundtrack so much) and of course Rupert Penry-Jones is a wonderful Wentworth *le sigh* The 1995 adaptation had its wonderful moments too (I love that part after Anne read the letter, rushes out to meet Wentworth on the street and they walk arm in arm down the quiet street. Gorgeous moment there =D)

For the longest time the 1996 adaptation of Emma was my favourite because Jeremy Northam was my Mr. Knightley =D but 2009 is much closer to the book and it's so pretty and the cast is so wonderful =) It's too bad the other 1996 adaptation with Kate Beckingsale was a bit =/ I love Mark Strong but his Mr. Knightley was rather terrifying! All grumpiness, no humour =( I admit, I smiled when you mentioned Emma Approved because it was such a cute webseries!

Looking forward to your other posts/reviews Kara! =)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-8506181891063810292015-12-09T13:38:02.475-05:002015-12-09T13:38:02.475-05:00I LOVE the 2009 version of Emma! It is SO perfect!...I LOVE the 2009 version of Emma! It is SO perfect! And even though the Wentworth is not quite as dashing, the 1995 version of Persuasion is my favorite. Another favorite adaptation is Northanger Abbey.Kamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13544522373726447697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5087298869735390985.post-229033567053256592015-12-09T02:38:37.412-05:002015-12-09T02:38:37.412-05:00Oh, I love this post! I think I'd appreciate Persuasion more when I'm a bit older - I have noticed that it's a lot of people's favourite JA book, so I think I just don't 'get' it quite yet. (And really, Sally Hawkins as Anne annoys me a bit. I think I'd love Amanda Roots' much better. I like the Rupert-actor as Wentworth though! I can see why you like him. :-P)

Emma, however, is one of my favourite ever Jane Austen stories. I agree! The 2009 version is PURE BLISS!!! I can never get enough of it. JOHNNY LEE MILLER IS THE BEST. I love him soooo much. :-)

I've also seen the Gwenyth Paltrow and the Kate Beckinsale versions, but I agree with you on them completely. (The Mr Knightley in the Kate Beckinsale version. Ughhh. I cannot like him at all.) I'm pleased to hear someone who doesn't really love the Gwenyth Paltrow version! I felt rather lonely there. :-D

And Emma Approved! I've seen that. I love it a lot. Snarky Knightley is the best. *Wink* That webseries REALLY is fabulous. I'm convinced it's the best webseries out there. :)

~ NaomiNaomi Pittshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13932777444665441104noreply@blogger.com
