"Of course anyone who truly loves books buys more of them than he or she can hope to read in one fleeting lifetime. A good book, resting unopened in its slot on a shelf, full of majestic potentiality, is the most comforting sort of intellectual wallpaper." ~ David QuaimenI love books!
There. I said it. And I'm not sorry either! I've recently realized exactly how true the above quote is about me. I love to read, yes. But more than that, I just love books. Whenever I have a bad day, where do you think I want to go to cheer myself up? Some people use retail therapy, I use books. I just need to be around them. I don't even have to buy one and take it home. It's even better if I do find one though (of course, duh). Just there, surrounded by books, all those words and pages and letters. Someones thoughts written down in ink. Granted, some of those thoughts aren't ones I want to read or even ones that I want to peek at, but still. There's just something about a book.
(For reference, here's my bookshelf. And those shelves are double-stacked, thank you very much!)
I looked over my bookshelf the other day and realized that I have several books that I haven't read yet. I used to think that wasn't possible for me. If I bought a book, of course I would read it
I recently picked up a book, recommended by this gal, and it's all lovely and glorious and sitting on my shelf unread right now. It certainly looks great there! But who knows when I'll get around to reading it. I seem to go in spells of what I want to read. So, I know I want to read that one some day, and some day I'm sure I will. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But we'll see.
Anyway, I digress a little. Basically, that quote seemed to fit me precisely and I decided to share it with the world. The small world that consists of exactly zero people who are actually reading this. But that's okay! I just wanted to get my thoughts out there.
Books are awesome! The end.
PS: I thought I'd share a pic of just a few of my favorite reads. Mind you, this is just a minuscule portion of my stack of favorites. If I did a pic of all of them, I'd have pages and pages!
Yeah for You! I love the look of the blog and can't wait to see what you write. Keep it up :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! But as you can see, some changes have happened. I tried changing one thing and that caused something else to go out of whack. So I ended up changing several things! But thank you so much for the encouragement. This blogging thing is kinda scary! :)
DeleteI love books too! And I continually keep buying them while forgetting that I hardly have time to sit down and read anymore.... I so look forward to reading your blog now! :) ~ Rosie
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosie! We'll see if I have anything worthwhile to talk about. But the encouragement is greatly appreciated! :)
